My Norwegian heritage is really shining through with this years Winter Tablescape. I always seem to bring in elements of Scandinavian design in my decor and last year was no exception. See last years Christmas Tablescape here. This year I went even further into the culture of Norway and tried to pull together elements of a Norwegian Christmas.
PepperKakker
Pepperkakker is Norwegian gingerbread and a traditional Christmas cookie. My sweet Anny grandma used to make us little tins of Pepperkakker in early December. It would come in the mail or my parents would bring it home from a visit. I used this cookie recipe as a whimsical addition to this Scandinavian style Winter Tablescape.
Cedar Candle Holder
Bringing in natural wood elements is very true to the Norwegian culture. My husband handmade this beautiful cedar candle holder specifically for this Winter Tablescape. The candles are Danish tapers and this combo adds a cozy classic feeling of warmth to the table. When i think of Norwegian culture, I think of cozy nights at home, warm fires, and candles. A term often used to describe this is – Hygge.
Linens
A draping linen tablecloth and green linen napkins from LinenMe give this Winter Tablescape a classy touch and add just the texture needed to balance the natural elements.
Place Settings
I kept it pretty minimal for this Winter Tablescape. A simple white plate, beige dessert plate, matte black cutlery, and green vintage goblets. The linen napkins are the real feature of these place settings and the sweet little wooden ornaments tied with twine added another element of whimsy to this Tablescape.
I think what makes this Winter Tablescape so special to me is the heart that went into it. The cookies that I made as a memory of Anny grandma, the handmade candle holder that my Husband made, and the memories that will be made as we sit around this table over the Holidays.
